Lexington and Concord, 4/19/1775
The heated battles at Lexington and Concord which America won started the Revolutionary War. It was called "The Shot heard 'round the world".
Bunker Hill, 6/17/1775
British win with nearly twice the force of the Americans, but it showed the British that they were serious about war. It was a Pyhrric victory, with Britain losing many troops despite their victory.
British Fleet Arrives in New York, 6/29/1776
British arrive in New York. This causes the Declaration to finally be signed because they'd decided that they have had enough of this injustice. The Declaration of Independence was a wonderful motivator when things went terribly. It didn't really help the Continental Army in the next major battle, but without the Declaration, many more troops would've deserted or left when their enlistments expired.
Battle of Long Island, 8/27/1776
The British won this battle. This battle let them capture the entirety of New York, an important strategic and political position since they can now traverse on the Hudson River and New York was considered one of the most important cities in America. Hope was extinguished after this retreat and the death of many Americans.
Battle of Trenton, 12/26/1776
Americans win. They captured over 900 Hessians, giving new hope to the Americans after a series of disastrous losses. Without this newfound hope, countless battles afterwards would've been lost for hope is the greatest motivator in any war.
Battle of Saratoga, 10/1777
Americans win. This was a turning point in the war as it convinced France to join the Americans. Without France, they would lose a major source of supplies and troops, which would undoubtedly end up with many defeats rather than the many victories that the Americans accumulated after this battle.
Valley Forge, Winter 1777- Winter 1778
The American soldiers were motivated and trained, especially by Baron von Steuben. George Washington found a cure for the smallpox that was plaguing his army as well. Without their training at Valley Forge, the Americans would never have won for they would've lacked the skill and experience. Without the inoculation treatment, even more Americans would've died and this low amount of soldiers would end up with many British victories.
Battle at Monmouth, 6/1778
Americans win. This battle ends the War in the North since all sides decide to retreat to the South.
Battle at Camden, 8/1780
The British crush the Americans in this battle. General Horatio Gates had exhausted and underfed his army so they fled since they were in no condition to fight. This made them look weak, desperate, and afraid, which presumably halted recruitment and destroyed a great deal of motivation that the Americans had.
Battle at Yorktown, 10/1781
Americans win, demoralized British. This cut off support for Britis and quieted most of the people who were in support of the war. This unofficially ended the Revolutionary War, though it was only officially ended two years later when representatives from France, Britain, and America met to sign the Treaty of Paris.
