There were many factors that helped America win the Revolutionary War. Here are the most important/impactful reasons.
- Spies: African Americans, Slaves/Servants, women all retrieved and spread secret information about the enemy in hidden ways, such as codes and invisible ink.
- George Washington was a strong, smart, and inspirational leader, and helped his army pull through greatly.
- The British had leaders such as Lord George Germain, General John Burgoyne, and General William Howe, who used terrible war tactics. Germain and Burgoyne didn't know American land, and drew routes for the army through thick, hard-to-pass forests.
- The French provided America with supplies, gold, and the Navy when they became allies after the Battle of Saratoga.
- The Continental Army eventually became integrated.
- During Valley Forge, Von Steuben helped train and further motivate the Continental Army, and Washington found a cure for the smallpox plaguing his army.
- Women helped by cooking and cleaning in the army. Others were spies, and some dressed as men to fight in the war.
- The innovative war tactics, such as spreading the Army all over the south and using brand new guerilla tactics which threw the British off-guard.
- Britain was very far away from the colonies, so it was hard for the Britain to communicate and send supplies to the British Army.
- British leaders and army had no idea what America was like, and couldn't adapt to their strategies and land.
- The Continental Army got help from local militias.
- All American soldiers were fighting with passion, motivation, momentum, spirit, perserverance, and patriotism. They were fighting for their lives, families, and land. The British had no such drive behind them, only the orders of King George and their generals/commanders.
